Two by Two
At the community college, a local band put on a mini-concert to publicize their upcoming appearance. They performed over the lunch hours in the cafeteria. Many students got up and danced, or clapped, nodding their heads in rhythm with the band. In an article in the newspaper, one student was quoted as saying, “With music, you just have to dance. It is not a spectator event.”
Jesus sends the Apostles out, two by two, to try their hand at proclaiming the Gospel. It was not a time to watch and see, but rather a time to say and do. They expelled demons, anointed the sick and cured many. The Kingdom of God comes in power, moving aside anything that stands in its way. It is music to the soul that causes its listeners to proclaim, to love, and to serve.
Faith is not a spectator sport!
God calls each one of us. From the moment of your Baptism, you are given spiritual gifts to be used for the sake of the whole community. You are to serve as best you can, advancing the cause of the Gospel and announcing in all you say and do that the Kingdom is at hand.
By word and deed, we live the Gospel, witnessing to the saving power of grace, and the joy of faith that gives life purpose, meaning and power.
Are you still on the sidelines watching? It’s time to be part of the mission, time to find and use your gifts. Pray, work, serve, and lead.
It’s time to be His disciple.
